The Cardiology Department provides services for the diagnosis and monitoring of heart disease, on both an inpatient and an outpatient basis. The department's Non-Invasive Cardiology Laboratory is equipped with the latest medical technology. The Department also offers a Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit combining a supervised program of exercise and patient education for the cardiac patient.
Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center have formed a partnership to bring high-quality cardiac services to the community through the creation of a state-of-the-art Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. St. Francis physicians perform more cardiac surgical and interventional procedures than any other hospital in New York State, and they have been consistently recognized for their quality of care. Cardiac catheterization is an essential tool for diagnosing and guiding the treatment of heart disease. It enables Brookhaven cardiologists to visualize and assess the condition of the coronary arteries, and it provides vital information for treating blockages that can restrict blood flow to the heart.
Non-Invasive Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory
At Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, our cardiac patients receive high quality care in a state-of-the-art Non-Invasive Cardiology Laboratory. In today's society, women lead active lives in a high-pressure environment. Along with these pressures comes an added risk for heart disease. Women suffer from heart disease at an ever-increasing rate. Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center recognizes these as well as the health needs of other special groups and has integrated them into our carefully designed diagnostic services.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac Rehabilitation at Brookhaven combines a program of exercise with
patient education to improve physical conditioning and awareness of cardiac
risk factors. The aerobic exercise equipment available includes a stationary
bicycle, a rowing machine, a stair stepper, a treadmill and arm ergometers.
The program is directly managed by highly trained and qualified Exercise
Physiologists and Critical Care Nurse Specialists who are supervised by a
Physician Medical Director. The primary goals of the program are to
facilitate the return to an active lifestyle for patients recovering from a
heart attack, coronary bypass surgery or angioplasty, and to improve the
quality of life for those who suffer from exertional angina.
